I am looking for a section 8 apartment either a very large Single or a 1 bedroom. I am disabled (but ambulatory) and 57 years old. I have lived at my current address since 1997, and have a good rental record. I have no children.I have applied for a transfer from Shelter Plus Care Section 8 to regular Housing CHoice Voucher. The problem is that I am required to stay for 1 year at my present address, and the voucher process will take about 3-6 months (I applied two months ago). Is there a wait list (there usually is on sec 8 apartments)? If there is I would like to be placed on one.

Waited on the list for 7 years, yet 97 percent of advertised rentals say: NO SECTION 8. There must be someone who is willing to deal with the red tape. I have less than 20 days left to locate a property. I am 55, never married, no children. I retired early for medical reasons from a County position. I receive social security disability and retirement income. My credit rating is good. My income is modest but regular. The HUD program is the only way I can afford to have a place of my own.
